Proposal: Train the Trainer – Driver Assessor Qualification

Overview
This qualification enables candidates to conduct effective driver assessments within your organisation. It covers both theory and practical elements to ensure assessors are confident and competent in evaluating driver performance and vehicle suitability.

Course Structure
The training is delivered over three days:

Days 1 & 2 – Syllabus A:
Focuses on the theory behind driver assessments:

Understanding driving rules and standards

Planning assessment routes

Evaluating vehicle and driver suitability

Day 3 – Syllabus B:
Emphasises practical assessment delivery:

Conducting assessments

Scoring and pass/fail criteria

Observing a ‘live drive’ to apply theory in practice

Practical Components
Before progressing, candidates must complete:

An eyesight test

An identity check

A vehicle check

These are recorded using NLTC's official practical sheet.

Learning Resources
All candidates will receive:

A copy of the current Highway Code

Access to a PowerPoint presentation with relevant content

Links to official GOV.UK resources

Training films with example drives for group discussion

The course encourages open-book learning, with trainers elaborating on real-world scenarios and regulations.

Assessments
Candidates will complete two formal online assessments:

Syllabus A: 20 multiple-choice questions (70% pass mark, 30 mins)

Syllabus B: 20 questions (mix of written and pictorial, 30 mins)

All assessments are taken under strict exam conditions using approved equipment.

Certification & Outcome
Upon successful completion, candidates will be certified Driver Assessors, able to independently conduct driver assessments within your organisation across various vehicle types.
